Companion care services are designed to assist or take over in the activities that elders and disabled people need to be able to live at home safely and with dignity. These may include light housekeeping, meal preparation, grooming or bathing assistance, fall prevention, medication reminders, transportation and running errands. See our Senior Home Care Services page for a full list of our services.
We cover all Los Angeles County. You can find a detailed list of areas where we are currently active on our Coverage Area page.
Yes. Over the years we have helped many clients with different kinds of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. We offer all our clients respect, kindness, patience and stimulation to help them stay active and healthy.
Most of our clients are seniors, and disabled adults. We also serve adults recovering from illness, surgery or accidents and families with new babies.
Call us at 323-259-2449 or toll free at 866-203-3612 to start. First we meet in your home to assess the situation and answer your questions in detail. Then we conduct a second meeting to introduce you to our first choice caregiver with the right skills and disposition to work well with your family. If you approve the caregiver, services start at your convenience. If you do not, we can present alternate caregivers for your consideration.
Generally, services can be provided within 48-hours and often the same day.
We have only one requirement: shifts must be at least 4 hours long. The reason for this requirement is that caregivers need a substantial shift to justify their travel to and from the client's location. Other than that, you select everything else.
Yes. People sometimes discover that the assistance provided in an assisted living facility is not enough to enable them to remain independent and enjoy life outside the facility. Orange Grove Home Care can step in to meet these goals.
Non-medical home care is designed for individuals who need help with activities of daily living (see the Services section), but do not need nursing care. When nursing care is required, a visiting nurse or skilled nursing facility are good options.
Home care is key if the client wants to be in their own familiar surroundings and could benefit from one-on-one attention. Assisted living facilities and nursing homes have a higher ratio of staff to residents, so individualized attention is not possible all the time. Some clients become frustrated, uncooperative and withdrawn when they move into a facility because they miss the companionship, gentle touch and personal attention they used to get at home.
Orange Grove Home Care can provide companionship to clients in any setting to complement the services provided by the assisted living or nursing care facilities.
According to the MetLife Market Survey of 2008, a private room in a nursing home in the Los Angeles area averages $198 per day. Placement in an assisted living facility can cost up to $100 per day, not including the cost of help with activities of daily living.
In most cases, home care is more economical than either these two options. Home care is also more convenient. Orange Grove Home Care can provide you with free quotes for different levels of care so that you can compare and decide what is best for you.
Yes. Any assets a person spends for their own care is that much less that will be available for the government to take away through taxes and Medicaid expenses. Most families would rather see those assets spent keeping their elderly family members at home and independent rather than have them taken away to reimburse the government or be taxed as inheritance. We strongly suggest you consult with a financial planner to review the care recipient's long term financial situation. We would be happy to give you the names of financial planners who have experience in long term care.
It can be very hard for some of us to accept help after a lifetime of total independence. Acknowledging your loved one's feelings and concerns, and being clear about your own, can create an atmosphere of team work to help choose the best alternative for them.
Understand that unless the person has a serious mental impairment, the decision to accept home care is theirs. It may take several conversations to reach the decision-making point. Start the dialogue early and communicate often. Often, care recipients need the reassurance that a caregiver will not take over and that they will retain control over their lives.
It might be helpful to involve a third party that can answer detailed questions and lend credibility to the idea of home care. A care manager or home care agency can help with this.
We only hire caregivers who truly love their work and enjoy helping others. In addition, they undergo comprehensive criminal, credit, DMV and insurance background checks. We also review their personal and professional references.
Our caregivers are carefully trained in all aspects of home care on a continuous basis. They also receive specific instructions based on our clients' needs and personal requests.
Our caregivers are our employees. We do not hire "Independent Contractors" as our caregivers. We pay for all of our caregivers' payroll taxes, insurance, benefits, and worker's compensation, so you don't have to.
Yes. Schedule changes are easily accomplished. You come first. We adjust to your needs, your requests and your schedule. We will do everything possible to make sure you get your first choice schedule.
If a client experiences a life-threatening emergency, the caregiver will call 9-1-1 immediately, and our main office after the situation is under control. The manager will then reach the emergency contacts established when services began. Unless the client does not allow it, and if the caregiver feels able to, they will administer first aid before the paramedics arrive.
In case of an earthquake, the office makes contact with all clients as soon as possible to assess their status and communicates with their emergency contacts to coordinate care.
Most clients use private pay and long-term care insurance for non-medical home care services. Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover non-medical home care services at this time. Other financial resources include reverse mortgages, low- or no-interest loans, and grants from community organizations.
Yes. We carry liability insurance and bonding. Our caregivers are also covered by workers compensation insurance. While driving on the job, caregivers are covered by their personal car insurance as well as the company's.
